Crude price up
US stocks closed higher on Wednesday,
The Dow Jones added 54 to close at 21,867, the S&P500 added over 7 to 2,465.
The Nasdaq added 17 at 6,393.
In Toronto, the TSX was down around 30 at 15,059.
MID-SESSION
US shares were still higher at mid-session, while the crude price also rose.
The Dow Jones Industrial Index added over 76 points to 21,829, while the broader based S&P 500 gained 8.23 at 2,466.
The tech heavy Nasdaq added 17.27 to stand at 6,392 at the time of writing. US benchmark crude, or West Texas Intermediate (WTI) - added 0.99% to stand at $49.13 a barrel.
Biotechs were notable risers on the day.
Verastem Inc (NASDAQ:VSTM) added over 28% to $12.70 as it revealed that
its Phase 3 DUO study evaluating its blood cancer drug duvelisib showed statistically significant improvement.
Voyager Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VYGR) gained over 17% to US$12.82 after the company announced 'positive' results from ongoing Phase 1b trial of VY-AADC01 for advanced Parkinson's disease.

Wall Street shares are higher at the open with the Dow Jones ahead by over 61 points.
The S&P 500 is ahead by 6.71, while the tech heavy Nasdaq index is up almost 14 at 6,389.
In Toronto, the TSX is ahead by over 67 points to stand at 15,157.
In companies, Kohls Corp (NYSE:KSS) shares added 4.48% to $42.22 each as it emerged that it had become the latest retailer to partner with tech giant Amazon Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN).
The US department store giant revealed plans on Wednesday to roll out a "smart home experience" in 10 stores, ahead of Christmas shopping season.
Elsewhere, Trivago NV ( NASDAQ:TRVG) shares tanked over 23% to $11.41 as the market reacted to a profit warning.
The group now expects annual revenue growth to be around 40% and adjusted EBITDA to be lower than 2016 but still positive.
