Apple confirms it will launch iPhone 8 on September 12 at new Steve Jobs theatre in California

The launch of its iPhone will be the first event to be held at Apple's new headquarters

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has confirmed it will unveil its next iPhone on 12 September at the Steve Jobs theatre at its new headquarters in Cupertino, California.

The tech giant sent out invitations to the event yesterday, pouring cold water over rumours that the launch of the next iPhone has been delayed due to supply chain issues.

Three new iPhones are expected to be revealed, including two updated versions of the iPhone 7 and a 10th anniversary high-end version.

The company is also expected to announce updates to the Apple Watch and TV set-top box at the event.

The premium iPhone is understood to feature an edge-to-edge display, an augmented reality camera and facial recognition to unlock the device instead of the existing fingerprint button.

With an anticipated starting price of US$1,000, the handset will boost average selling prices and some analysts see this propelling Apple towards becoming the first company to reach a US$1trn market capitalisation.
