Cairn Energy PLC (LON:CNE) continue to boost its win ratio offshore Senegal, where the latest well at the SNE project hit oil and gas.
The well, SNE North 1, located some 15 kilometres from the SNE discovery, encountered oil and gas in its primary target as well as a new deeper oil discovery in a second target. It marks the end of the current five-well programme in Senegal.

Cairn explained that the result has positive implications for the further potential in the area to the north of the original SNE discovery, as the structural trend continues into the area.
"The SNE North well results are encouraging in terms of further prospectivity and implications for the full block potential offshore Senegal,” said Simon Thomson, Cairn Energy chief executive.
“We are delighted to have completed a safe and successful drilling programme in Senegal this year with the Stena DrillMAX.
“An update on resources and the SNE development plans will be provided at our interim results later this month."
SNE North 1
The well was drilled in water depth of 900 metres, in the Sangomar Deep Offshore block some 90 kilometres offshore. It was drilled down to a total depth of 2,837 metres.
Cairn encountered some 24 metres of gross hydrocarbons, across three intervals.
