St George Mining brings in renowned consultant Charles Wilkinson

The company now believes it has the technical expertise to develop a nickel sulphide discovery

St George Mining Ltd (ASX:SGQ) has engaged Charles Wilkinson, the former general manager of exploration at Western Areas (ASX:WSA), as a technical consultant.

Wilkinson will play a key role in formulating the next stage development strategies for the company’s nickel sulphide projects including the Mt Alexander Project.

The Mt Alexander Project comprises four exploration licences and is located 120 kilometres from the Agnew-Wiluna belt which hosts numerous world class nickel deposits.

The project hosts the Cathedrals, Stricklands and Investigators nickel-copper-cobalt-PGE discoveries.

John Prineas, chairman, commented: “The Mt Alexander Project – with high grade nickel-copper-cobalt-PGE mineralisation discovered over a strike length of 3.5 kilometres – is one of the most exciting projects in Western Australia.

“We are delighted that Charles Wilkinson has joined our technical team. His considerable expertise in nickel sulphide exploration and mine development will be invaluable as we move forward at Mt Alexander, and also as we continue to test nickel sulphide targets at our East Laverton Project.”

Industry-leading credentials

Wilkinson’s addition will further boost the technical team’s industry-leading credentials in the discovery and development of nickel sulphide deposits.

He has over 32 years’ experience as a geologist in the mining industry and worked with WMC

Resources for 16 years in various senior exploration and operational positions.

After five years as the initial managing director of Northern Star Resources (ASX:NST), Wilkinson joined Western Areas Limited in 2008 as the general manager of exploration.

During his time at Western Areas, it developed the Spotted Quoll deposit, significantly increased its resource inventory and became Australia’s #1 independent nickel sulphide producer.

Notably, the Cathedrals, Stricklands and Investigators nickel-copper-cobalt-PGE discoveries are located on E29/638, which is held in joint venture with Western Areas.
