St George Mining (ASX:SGQ) has identified a new, large electromagnetic (EM) conductor, named Anomaly 11, within the Mt Alexander Project located in Western Australia.
Anomaly 11 was identified by a moving loop electromagnetic (MLEM) survey over the east-northeast structural corridor located one kilometre south of the Cathedrals Belt.
Drill testing of this target has been prioritised for the next drill program at Mt Alexander.
Anomaly 11 is modelled with a conductivity of 4,700 Siemens and an area of 113x91 metres.
John Prineas, chairman, commented: “Geophysics has been an excellent exploration tool at Mt Alexander with EM surveys identifying numerous conductors in the Cathedrals Belt that have been drilled and confirmed as nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation.
“We are continuing to use reconnaissance geophysics in unexplored areas of the Mt Alexander Project, and early results are encouraging.”
Survey may have also uncovered something else…
The new high-resolution magnetic data has also identified the location of the Ida Fault within the Mt Alexander tenements.
The intersection of the Cathedrals Belt and Ida Fault may be an important geological location that could have acted as a first order regional control on mineralisation within the Mt Alexander tenements.
A high powered SAMSON EM survey will be completed over the western extension of the Cathedrals Belt including the area where these structures intersect, to search for any deep conductors.
Recent drill results
The most recent drill results from Mt Alexander continue to show that such conductors control accumulations of sulphide mineralisation.
Recent highlights from the Cathedrals Prospect included 7.5 metres at 3.90% nickel, 1.74% copper, 0.12% cobalt and 3.32 g/t total PGEs.
The Mt Alexander Project comprises four exploration licences and is located 120 kilometres from the Agnew-Wiluna belt which hosts numerous world class nickel deposits.
The project hosts the Cathedrals, Stricklands and Investigators nickel-copper-cobalt-PGE discoveries, which are located on licence E29/638.
This licence is held in joint venture by Western Areas Limited (25%) and operator St George (75%).
