A tier-one graphite deposit...
The Siviour Project in Southern Australia “looks like a tier-one graphite deposit”, according to Rob Murdoch, chief executive of the asset’s owner, Renascor Resources (ASX:RNU).
Given the growing global demand for the material, which is used in batteries, steelmaking and in advanced lubricants, there “is a real need for a high-quality project”, Murdoch added. He thinks Siviour fits that bill as it has a high net present value, is low cost and has a fast payback. “Economically, it really stacks up,” the CEO told the Noosa crowd.
Hunting silver in elephant country...
From South Australia we were transported half way around the globe to Mexico as Santana Minerals' (ASX:SMI) Tony McDonald said the country is great to work in despite reports to the contrary.
“It is a case of acting sensibly,” he said. Management has over a quarter of a century’s experience working in Mexico, which obviously helps. According to a recent article in The Australian, Sanatana’s flagship Cuitaboca property is in “silver elephant country”, meaning the area has been host to some huge finds.
Lithium mine targeting construction in 2018...
For Sayona Mining (ASX:SYA), which owns the Authier lithium project in Quebec, the idea is to get into production as quickly as possible to capitalise on a further increase in the already red hot price of the metal.
A total of $66 million of capex should see construction underway in late 2018 with output slated to start in 2019, said CEO Corey Nolan. “We we will use the cash flow from this [Authier] to develop the business further,” he added.
Drilling for offshore oil...
Robert Towner’s Triangle Energy (ASX:TEG) has taken the counter-cyclical view by going into oil and gas at the current depressed price of crude. But it could well look an inspired decision if the soon-to-be drilled Xanadu-1 well, offshore Western Australia, finds oil.
The Perth-based company owns just under 79% of the Cliff Head Oil Field, which includes the Arrrowsmith Stabilisation Plant in the Perth Basin. It also has the Reids Dome production licence in Queensland.
