Digital media group Falcon Media House Ltd (LON:FAL) is to expand its footprint in South-east Asia and Africa through a collaboration with Media Nucleus.
Media Nucleus is a well-established digital and broadcast technology products company, with clients such as Indian state broadcaster Doordarshan, Fox Movies in the Middle East and Zuku in East Africa.
Falcon will use Media Nucleus as a conduit to provide an “over the top” (red button video streaming) service via its subsidiary Quiptel’s Q-Flow technology.
Falcon’s Q-Flow technology is known to work over even the flakiest networks, eliminating or reducing the bane of video streamer’s lives: buffering.
"We're excited to partner with a highly established business, which recognises that live and on-demand content delivery via OTT platforms represent the future of broadcasting,” said Gert Rieder, chief executive of Falcon.
“The local networks and mobile services in India, Africa and Southeast Asia are not reliable enough to provide high quality streaming experiences. Media Nucleus has a huge established customer base including many of the leading broadcast companies in these regions and we're looking forward to enabling them to deliver a world class service using our software, which will help them grow in a cost-efficient manner, avoiding the huge costs of building infrastructure," Rieder added.
Media Nucleus director Bhaskar Majumdar said the explosion in use of smartphones had generated an increase in demand for streaming video content.
“Media Nucleus, with its reach across subcontinent and MENA markets, will enable the Quiptel OTT platform and its content to capture share in these markets," Majumdar said.
Shares in Falcon were up 5.0% at 15.625p in early deals.
