WideCells boss to take part in gruelling 135-mile ultramarathon for charity

João Andrade is hoping to raise £50,000 for three charities: BigMoose, the Portuguese Association of Multiple Sclerosis, and CHAMPS Appeal

It is often said that ‘charity begins at home’, but for WideCells Group PLC (LON:WDC) boss João Andrade, his goodwill starts at the office.

Andrade has started training for a 135-mile ultramarathon in the Californian desert – dubbed ‘the world’s toughest foot race’ – as part of the stem cell specialist’s corporate charity engagement plan.

The chief executive hopes to be in a position to participate in the invitation-only race in 2020 and is looking to raise £50,000 for homeless organisation BigMoose, the Portuguese Association of Multiple Sclerosis, and children’s charity CHAMPS Appeal.

“We are delighted to be working with and supporting a number of very worthy charities as part of our Corporate Social Engagement plan,” said Andrade.

“These charities have already positively benefitted thousands of lives and we want to help them to continue their incredible work.

“That is why I have personally undertaken the challenge to run the Badwater ultramarathon. I am passionate about transforming the future medical landscape both within my capacity as CEO of WideCells Group and personally.”

Widecells shares were unchanged at 14p this morning.
