Snap Inc, Amazon, JC Penney Company and more

We are covering the US movers and shakers after hours and in pre-market

Away from Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) and the start of the Prime sale bonanza, other big names were making headlines after hours.

Later Amazon rose 0.82% to $988.25.

Barracuda Networks (NYSE:CUDA), the computer networking specialist, saw shares fall 5% after hours after results came in that disappointed the market

EPS (earnings per share) were in line with analysts' expectations, but operating margin for the quarter was reportedly below estimates. Later shares dropped 3.38% to $23.18 each.

Also in focus was latest social media darling Snap (NYSE:SNAP), the parent company of Snapchat, which recently (March) made its stock market debut.

The shares went below the $17 IPO price for the first time on Monday, and closed the session at $16.99. In pre-market they are down almost 4% to $16.34. Later in the day they slumped further - losing almost 8% to $15.68.

Califonia-based Arena Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ARNA) saw shares jump over 46% after the bell after it unveiled positive test results for a hypertension drug.

The group told investors that a phase 2 study of a drug targeted at pulmonary arterial hypertension, which causes high blood pressure in the lungs, showed "a statistically significant absolute change from baseline".

The drug is called ralinepag and showed a 29.8% greater improvement than the patients in the placebo group. It was the top riser on Nasdaq on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, shares in JC Penney Company Inc (NYSE:JCP) dropped 3% after-hours after it emerged the finance chief at the struggling department store chain was stepping down.

He is Edward Record and will remain in the position until August 7, the company said in a brief statement.

Andrew Drexler, senior vice president and chief accounting officer and controller, will serve as CFO on an interim basis while the company looks for Record's replacement, it emerged.

In the markets, after a generally higher close, except the Dow, futures are pointing to a lower start. The Dow Jones is down 19; the Nasdaq is 7.75 lower, while the S&P 500 is 2.25 down.
