US stocks in positive territory heading into the close

US shares were heading higher going into the close ...

US stocks are heading into the close in positive territory.

The Dow Jones is up 4.76 at 21,419, while the Nasdaq is up over 28 at 6,181, the S&P500 is at 2,427 - up 2.37.

In Toronto, the TSX is up 91.66 to 15,188.

MID-SESSION

US stocks were seeing green at mid-session as the tech sector stood out as gaining.

Oil prices were also higher and US crude is up 0.72% higher at $44.55 a barrel at the time of writing.

European indices closed higher despite listless trading patterns and FTSE 100 in London closed around 19 ahead.

The Dow Jones is up almost 25 at 21,438, while the Nasdaq is up 34 at 6,187. The broader-based S&P500 index added 5.57 points to stand at 2,430.

Investors are awaiting more Fed talk this week as Chairwoman Janet Yellen will deliver her semiannual monetary-policy report to Congress on Wednesday and Thursday.

A notable laggard, along with fellow retailers, was Abercrombie & Fitch Co (NYSE:ANF), which shed over 20% as the clothes retailer revealed it had terminated a potential buyout of the company.

Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE: BBY) shares dropped over 6% to $54.13 amid worries about heightened competition Macy’s Inc (NYSE: M) also dropped 7%.

However , bucking the recent trend, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) shares added 0.25% to $313.94 after falling 13% last week, as the first Model 3 car was produced at the weekend.

Wall Street shares made an uninspired start on Monday, with indices struggling for direction.

The Dow was down almost one point at 21,413, while the broader based S&P 500 added just 0.49 at 2,425.

The tech heavy Nasdaq was the best gainer, up 1.41 at 6,154, with notably eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY) shares up 2.19% to $34.98. Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) shares are up 0.78% to $986.61 as Prime Customers look forward to a 30 hour sale bonanza.

One notable faller was sports clothes retailer Abercrombie & Fitch (NYSE:ANF), whose shares plunged over 20% to $9.72 as it terminated talks about a potential sale following a review.

In May, it emerged the group was in discussions with several bidders regarding a potential sale.

In London, FTSE 100 is up around 17 points at 7,368 and in Toronto, the TSX is up 27 at 15,054. The US dollar is down against both the Euro and British pound.

Investors are awaiting the start proper of second-quarter earnings, with big bank numbers due on Friday.
