Helen of Troy gains as Brut after-shave firm's first-quarter revenue modestly beats forecasts

The Bermuda-based company posted first-quarter revenue of US$359.6mln, just above estimates for US$358.4mln, and forecasts full-year 2018 sales will be US$1.56bn-US$1.60bn.

Helen of Troy Ltd. (NASDAQ:HELE) saw its fiscal first-quarter revenue slightly beat forecasts, helping shares in the maker of Brut aftershave and Hot Tools hair stylers push higher in early New York trading.

The Bermuda-based company posted first-quarter revenue of US$359.6mln, just above estimates for US$358.4mln, and forecasts full-year 2018 sales will be US$1.56bn-US$1.60bn.

Helen of Troy’s net earnings were 22 US cents per share on a GAAP basis, and US$1.37 per share on an adjusted non-GAAP basis.

The consumer and household products group said it expects full-year earnings in the range of US$6.50 to US$6.90 per share.

The firm added that it continues to evaluate strategic alternatives for its nutritional supplements core business which could include divestiture.

In early New York trading, Helen of Troy shares were 1.8% higher at US$95.95.
