Canada stocks closed lower on Tuesday with the TSX finishing down over 51 points at 15,130.
The venture exchange closed down 2.69 at 764.05.
On Wall Street, markets were closed for the July 4 holiday.
In London., FTSE 100 closed earlier 19 down at 7,357 after an uninspired session.
US benchmark crude - West Texas Intermediate - added 0.02% to $47.08 a barrel.
Gold firms fell despite the commodity's safe haven status amid geopolitical tensions, and Barrick Gold (TSE:ABX) dropped 2.96% to C$20.02, while Goldcorp (TSE:G) shed 3.1%, to C$16.20.
BlackBerry (TSE:BB) shed 1.77% to C$12.73.

Canada stocks in Toronto started lower on Tuesday.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index fell 37.35 points at 15,144.
It comes after the market was closed for Canada day on Monday.
Thc Canadian dollar rose 0.43 cents to 77.33 US cents.
Crude oil belonging to oil giant Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:MOS) was released after a Canadian National Railway Co (TSE:CNR) freight train derailed. Canadian Railway shares fell 0.59% to $104.60.
Canaccord Genuity raised the target price on Theratechnologies Inc (TSE:TH) to $9.50 from $7.50, sending shares a little higher.
Meanwhile, the TSX Venture Exchange eased back 3.95 points to 762.79.

Wall Street is closed today for Independence Day after US stocks had a mixed finish on Monday, weighed by the tech sector.
The Nasdaq closed down around 30 points on the day.
It was a confusing end to the day, after an early market close, after shares in the likes of Amazon (NASDAQ;AZN) appeared to sink and others rise.
According to some websites, online retail behemoth Amazon sank 87% while Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) jumped almost 80%.
The Nasdaq exchange issued a response saying the misleading prices came from test data sent out that was "improperly" used by third party companies.
Canadian stock futures for today (Tuesday) are pointing to a higher open, with futures for September jumping 0.2%.
In addition, the Canadian dollar gained 17 cents against the US dollar at US77.11 early on.
In London, FTSE 100 is practically flat at 7,376, while US crude is 0.38% lower at $46.89 a barrel.
In London, payments processing firm Worldpay Group PLC (LON:WPG) was the star performer of the morning after it confirmed it has received preliminary bid approaches from Vantiv Inc and JPMorgan Chase Bank.
The shares soared 22% to 390.3p on the news.
