Microsoft set to cut thousands of jobs in global sales reorganisation

Microsoft is said to be switching its focus towards selling cloud software in an effort to boost revenue and catch up to rival Amazon

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is reportedly planning to axe thousands of jobs as part of a global sales reorganisation.

The restructuring will include a merger of Microsoft’s enterprise customer division and one or more its businesses focused on small and medium enterprises, TechCrunch reported.

The plans are expected to be announced as soon as this week, it said.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the restructuring will impact the Worldwide Commercial Business under Judson Althoff and Jean-Philippe Courtois’ global sales and marketing group.

It said the reorganisation would involve a shift from selling software for use on desktops and servers towards selling cloud services hosted on Microsoft’s datacentres.

Microsoft is said to be hoping this move will boost revenues and catch up to rival Amazon, a market leader in cloud software.

Microsoft didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
