Oracle Coalfields given July date for environmental hearing on Thar power station project

Final approval of the ESIA is expected to be received shortly after the public hearing

Oracle Coalfields PLC (LON:ORCP) has been set a date of 13 July for the public hearing on the environmental and social impact (ESIA) of its thermal power station project in Sindh, Pakistan.

The company said the ESIA and supporting documents identify any measures that would be needed to reduce or eliminate any significant impacts, with the ESIA carried out in accordance with national legislation and where applicable, international methodologies.

Final approval of the ESIA is expected to be received shortly after the public hearing and is given by way of a "No Objection Certificate".

Shahrukh Khan, Oracle’s chief executive, said: "This is a further step in finalising the necessary approvals for the Project. The company looks forward to updating the market as progress is made towards financial close."

The plan is for a coal-fired plant of up to 1,320MW capacity, with initial construction of a 660MW plant at the site.

A “no objection letter” has already been received from Pakistan’s Central Power Purchasing Agency.
