PREVIEW

US stocks are seen turning a corner on Tuesday and opening higher ahead of a closely watched two-day policy meeting of the Fed, culminating in a decision on interest rates.

Yesterday, Wall Street shares closed lower as the tech sell off continued to bite.

The benchmark Dow Jones Industrial Index closed at 21,235 - down 36 points, while the S&P500 closed 2.38 lower, at 2,429. Meanwhile, the tech heavy Nasdaq index finished 32 down at 6,175.

In futures today, the Dow Jones are up 20. the S&P 500 futures are ahead 3.85, while the Nasdaq futures are up 17.

Commentators and analysts reckon there will be a US rate rise announced on Wednesday. If so it will be the third rate hike in seven months, underlining confidence in the US economy.

The same cannot really be said of the UK economy, which is feeling a little rudderless as Prime Minister Theresa May tries to strike a deal with the DUP for a minority government, with the Brexit negotiation start travelling towards the country at a rate of knots.

On the corporate front, Verizon's $4.5bn purchase of search giant Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) is expected to close today - a milestone moment for the tech group, whose name has become part of the fabric of everyday life.

Oft in the press, taxi app Uber will also have news out. It has recommendations on Tuesday after an investigation into sexual harassment.

Also today, the US Bureau of labor statistics will release its inflation report for May this morning.
