Department 13 (ASX:D13) has been issued a U.S. patent for “Intrusion Detection and Radio Fingerprint Tracking” covering techniques that enhance security over wi-fi and cellular networks.
Importantly, the patent is applicable to Department 13’s flagship counter drone solution MESMER™ enabling it to avoid detection, identification and to defend itself against potential countermeasures.
In a radio transmitter, variations within the electronic components cause the transmitter to produce a unique radio fingerprint – a set of signal characteristics that enable the device to be uniquely identified.
A person’s phone or laptop can be tracked in the same way, which can threaten their privacy, security, and safety depending on who is tracking them.
The new technology enhances the security of Department 13’s counter drone solution by preventing the ability of dangerous drone operators to identify, locate or attempt to attack MESMER.
Further, it provides a revenue opportunity for the company in cyber security for mobile phones and laptops, particularly for travelling government officials and business executives.
Last week, Australasian defence and government sector supplier, EPE, purchased multiple MESMER counter drone systems for an end customer.
Department 13 raised $5.5 million in May from new and existing shareholders to build-up inventory of hardware components of its Mesmer system to meet growing sales demand.
