St George Mining actively drilling at East Laverton

A total of 40 drill holes for 2,934 metres have been completed to date.

St George Mining (ASX:SGQ) is testing gold and nickel sulphide targets in an ongoing major drill program at its 100% owned East Laverton Project located in Western Australia.

At its gold targets, a total of 40 drill holes for 2,934 metres have been completed to date and a further 3,000 metres of drilling is planned to test additional gold targets.

At the Windsor nickel sulphide prospect, diamond drilling is being used to test an extremely powerful electromagnetic conductor (210,000 Siemens) for potential massive nickel sulphide mineralisation.

John Prineas, chairman, commented: “After an unexpected delay, the diamond rig is back in action at Windsor and the drill bit is spinning furiously towards the first of the downhole electromagnetic targets to be tested.

“The gold drilling is working its way through our portfolio of gold targets and we expect to start drilling soon at our most highly ranked target at Desert Dragon.”

Gold targets

The planned drilling will test a pipeline of gold targets on three major greenstone belts at East Laverton.

Gold anomalism has been identified in all three greenstone belts by past exploration.

The East Laverton Project is surrounded by major gold mines with the 8+ million ounce gold Tropicana deposit to the east and the 6+ million ounce gold Gruyere deposit to the north and the world class Laverton gold field to the northwest.

The priority gold targets in their respective belts at the East Laverton Project are as follows:

- Stella Range Belt: Cambridge North, Cambridge, Desert Dragon;

- Central Belt: Bristol; and

- Minigwal Belt: Athena, Ascalon.

To date, drilling has tested targets at Cambridge and Cambridge North.
