WideCells Group ranked 21st in 100 most disruptive global firms

The index ranks businesses with the most potential to influence, change or create new global markets

Stem cell storage specialist WideCells Group PLC (LON:WDC) has described as 'momentous' the decision to include it in the DISRUPT 100 index as the 21st most disruptive firm in the world.

The index ranks businesses with the most potential to influence, change or create new global markets and is judged by global brands including Google, Uber, Oracle, Silicon Valley Bank and Virgin StartUp.

WideCells aims to be a pioneering force and drives investment and research into the innovative stem cell industry.

Since 2005, there has been a 300% increase in the number of illnesses that can be treated using stem cells, but treatment is very expensive.

Its healthcare product Cellplan, based in Portugal, offers for an average premium of £150 per year, insurance for up to €1mln of treatment, travel, accommodation and repatriation costs.

Chief executive João Andrade said: "This is a momentous achievement for WideCells Group.

"We are delighted that our integrated stem cell support services proposition, which includes the first-of-its-kind healthcare product CellPlan, and WideAcademy, which is focused on driving education and awareness on stem cells, have been recognised as a leading force for global market change.

"Via our three divisions, we are focused on making stem cell treatment affordable and accessible for families around the world."
