Variscan Mines rounds out drilling at St Pierre gold project

Variscan is set to increase assay news flow in the near-term.

Variscan Mines (ASX:VAR) is set to increase assay news flow in the near-term following the completion of a drilling program at the company's wholly-owned St Pierre gold project in the Brittany region, France.

The extensive program included two diamond core holes at the Ville Tirard prospect and 15 reverse circulation holes in two traverses across the Belleville prospect.

So far 241 samples have been sent to ALS Geochemistry for assay analysis, with another 165 to be sent shortly.

Stewart Dickson, chief executive officer, commented:

"We are pleased to have successfully completed the planned drilling campaign at St Pierre.

"I would like to thank the team for working hard to achieve this milestone.

"We eagerly await assay results which we hope will confirm some promising preliminary observations at Belleville."

Drilling goal

At Ville Tirard, drilling was designed to locate and sample the mineralized zones as intersected in previous shallow drilling completed in 1952 at the western end of the La Belliere mine shear.

Across at Belleville, drilling was to define the hard rock source of a strong gold geochemical anomaly identified from previous rock chip and soil sampling.
