Tech titan Amazon reaches psychological milestone, with shares at $1,000 a pop

The shares touched $1,001.20 in pre-market deals before it slipped back to around $998, where it currently stands - 0.31% up on the day.

A psychologically significant moment hit tech giant Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) and shareholders today, when the stock price hit $1,000 for the first time.

The shares touched $1,001.20 in pre-market deals before it slipped back to around $998, where it currently stands - 0.31% up on the day.

Its rise to meteoric status is hardly a new story but there's something poignant about the fact it hit the $1,000 mark almost 20 years to the day after it went public, and when it sold shares for just $18 a pop.

Amazon is now the fourth-largest US company by market capitalisation, behind Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Google owner Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT)

Amazon's current market cap is around $478billion - based on the latest stock price.
