St George Mining drills highest nickel-copper grades yet

Preliminary XRF gun nickel-copper grades are some of the best yet.

St George Mining (ASX:SGQ) has drilled out multiple zones of massive nickel-copper sulphides at its Cathedrals Prospect within the Mt Alexander Project located in Western Australia.

Grades of up to 9.5% nickel and 4.1% copper have been measured using portable XRF guns from the latest four diamond holes at the Cathedral prospect.

Pending laboratory assays will confirm these values and it is expected that the assays will also indicate high values of cobalt and platinum group elements (PGEs).

John Prineas, chairman, commented: “We continue to grow the value at Mt Alexander with additional massive sulphides intersected by drilling that tested for extensions of known high grade mineralisation at Cathedrals.

“What is particularly pleasing is that the nickel and copper values, as well as the thickness of mineralisation, in these new drill holes are similar to or even better than those already intersected at Cathedrals.”

Drill result details

Four new drill holes have been completed at the Cathedrals Prospect, where shallow high-grade nickel-copper-PGE sulphides have previously been intersected.

All four drill holes - MAD53, MAD54, MAD55 and MAD56 - have successfully intersected mineralised ultramafic including:

- MAD53 intersected 3.32 metres of massive and brecciated sulphides from 103.4 metres with portable XRF readings of the massive sulphide averaging of 9.3%nickel and 2% copper;

- MAD55 intersected 1.45 metres of massive and remobilised massive sulphides from 63.5 metres with portable XRF readings of the massive sulphide averaging 6.8%nickel and 2.6% copper; and

- MAD56 intersected 4 metres of massive, remobilised massive and matrix sulphides from

60.95 metres with portable XRF readings of the massive sulphide averaging 9.5% nickel and 4.1% copper.

The new significant intersections have extended and confirmed previous high grade massive nickel-copper sulphides discovered by MAD12, MAD13 and MAD35.

Three further diamond holes will be drilled at the Cathedrals Prospect.

Mt Alexander

St George recently commenced a major drilling campaign at the Mt Alexander nickel sulphide project testing the Cathedrals prospect, the Stricklands prospect and the Investigators prospect.

Drill results from Mt Alexander during 2016 suggest it could be an emerging new nickel camp with potential for multiple deposits.

Multiple new discoveries in 2016 have established recurrent mineralisation over 3.5 kilometres of strike.

The program is testing new conductors and targets as well as targeting extensions to mineralised zones to establish a resource base.

Analysis

These new results support the potential for continuity of the high grade nickel and copper mineralisation at Cathedrals.

Most electromagnetic conductors at the prospect have previously only been tested by one drill hole, meaning its true potential is yet to be revealed.

This latest batch of drilling results builds on recent success and continues to show that drilling is intersecting significant magmatic nickel-copper sulphides at shallow depths.

Drilling is ongoing at Mt Alexander and further results will be highly anticipated as they continue to reveal the project’s potential.

A major 5,000 metre gold drilling program is also set to commence this weekend at the East Laverton project in Western Australia.

St George entered the current June quarter with a cash balance of $5.7 million leaving it well-funded to continue exploration.
