PowerHouse Energy Group Plc (LON:PHE) said it has shifted its waste-to-power unit to a new location at the Thornton Science Park, operated by the University of Chester.
It follows the successful first-phase of re-commissioning G3-UHt system, which recently delivered the production of synthesis gas.
Chairman Keith Allaun said the move to Unit 99 on the Park “will serve the company well” as it continues the development of its automation processes at this new facility.

“We look forward to demonstrating the technology of the G3-UHt unit to interested parties and the public over the coming months, as we begin our journey to commercial success,” he added.
“Distributed Modular Gasification is a highly disruptive philosophy and one that will change the waste-to-energy market significantly.
“We foresee Unit 99 being the hub of tremendous activity and innovation for the future of PowerHouse.”
Last month the AIM-listed group said that the G3-UHt kit – which was shipped over to the UK from Australia - operated at a temperature of over 1,000 degrees Celcius, demonstrating its capacity to “gasify any historically difficult waste material and generate synthesis gas”.
Powerhouse takes the technology on several leaps and bounds..
At the heart of it is a reactor that works oxygen-free at ultra-high temperatures to atomise virtually all household or industrial waste.
What’s created is a synthesis gas, or syngas for short, that can be used to generate electricity.
With a little more processing hydrogen can be produced which could then be used to replenish fuel cells. The by-product of all this is an inert substance that can be moulded into bricks or used as ground covering.
Don’t confuse this sophisticated recycling operation with incineration, which works at far lower temperatures and leaves behind all sorts of toxins - not to mention significant amounts of ash.
The G3 system’s de-molecularisation capabilities allow for complete detoxification of waste-streams.
Multiple applications
There are all manner of applications for a technology that is able to recover up to 90% of the energy value of a material put through the reactor.
Medical waste is one area where the G3 could make a difference, while there is a burgeoning market in carpets too, apparently.
Around 405,000 tonnes of floor covering is discarded each year in the UK alone with only around a third of it recycled (it is often burned in brick kilns). The remainder ends up in landfill sites.
