Talga Resources expands world’s highest grade graphite project

The total resource now stands at 3.1 million tonnes of contained graphite.

Talga Resources (ASX:TLG) is uniquely placed to own and optimise the graphene supply chain, with agreements already in place to supply graphene products for four key industry sectors.

To achieve this goal Talga will look to develop its Vittangi Graphite Project in Sweden, which already hosts the world’s highest grade graphite resource – the Nunasvaara graphite deposit.

Recent drilling has added significant scale, improved grade and boosted the majority of tonnes into higher status resource categories.

The total resource now stands at 12.3 million tonnes at 25.5% graphitic carbon for 3.1 million tonnes of contained graphite (17% graphitic carbon lower cut-off).

This represents a 25% increase in total resource tonnes and contained graphite over the previous resource of 9.8 million tonnes at 25.3% graphitic carbon (10% graphitic carbon lower cut-off).

Importantly, Nunasvaara has maintained its position as the world’s highest grade graphite mineral resource and reflects the progressive growth of the project with minimal exploration.

The upgrade doubles the indicated resource tonnage used in Talga’s 2014 scoping study and enables the inclusion of additional zones for mining permitting purposes and economic studies.

Talga has in-house development capability to commercialise graphene products in collaboration with industry majors.

The company is focused on graphene products across four key industry sectors - energy storage (batteries), construction additives, coatings and carbon fibre composites.

Last month, Talga signed an agreement with Zinergy UK to co-develop and supply graphene conductive inks for electrodes used in thin, flexible printed batteries.

Graphene’s properties of high conductivity and impermeability can provide an advantage over competing materials to enable low cost, scalable and flexible battery components.

Talga’s share price doubled during the past one month, last trading at $0.815.
