Eli Lilly reports endpoint success in advanced breast cancer trial

Abemaciclib is also being tested in trials for for lung cancer, brain metastases and pancreatic cancer.

Eli Lilly & Co (NYSE:LLY) has reported improved survival rates in advanced breast cancer patients treated with a new drug combination.

A higher survival rate was the primary endpoint in the phase III trial, which combined the pharma giant’s abemaciclib with a standard of care aromatase inhibitor in a study of nearly 500 women.

“The trial result was another milestone for abemaciclib, a drug we believe has the potential to be best in class," said Levi Garraway, senior vice president, global development and medical affairs at Lilly Oncology.

Abemaciclib is also being tested in trials for for lung cancer, brain metastases and pancreatic cancer.

Shares in Eli Lilly rose 1.5% to US$83.10
