Software firm Corero bags multi-year contract with big-name internet service provider

Corero will provide its SmartWall products and SecureWatch services to the internet service provider’s customers

Corero Network Security PLC (LON:CNS) has nabbed a multi-year contract to protect customers of global internet service provider (ISP) from a distributed denial of service (DDoS) – a particularly pernicious type of cyber attack.

Under the terms of the SmartProtect agreement, AIM-quoted Corero will provide its SmartWall products and SecureWatch services to the ISP’s customers.

Corero will receive a share of the revenue generated by the service provider for subscriptions to the new service.

“This contract win is a strong endorsement of the competitive leadership of SmartWall and the compelling commercial benefit of our SmartProtect programme,” said chief executive Ashley Stephenson.

“Delivering large scale DDoS mitigation with an economic model that is aligned to the success of selling DDoS protection security services is a win-win situation for Corero and the service provider.”

The unnamed client operates one of the world’s Tier 1 IP networks and provides services in over 100 countries, Corero said.

What is DDoS?

DDoS stands for distributed denial of service, which is a cyber-attack where the perpetrator seeks to make a machine or network resources unavailable to its intended users by disrupting the host.

It’s normally carried out by flooding the targeted machine or network with excessive requests in an attempt to overload the system and prevent all legitimate requests being fulfilled.

Think of it like a crowd of people blocking entry to a shop and not allowing genuine customers to enter, which subsequently disrupts normal operations.

Corero’s technology is designed to protect businesses and their customers from having to deal with these kind of issues.

Shares opened 8% higher at 8.5p on Wednesday.
