Uber has been hit by another high-level departure after its head of communications unexpectedly handed in her notice.
Rachel Whetstone, a friend of former UK Prime Minister David Cameron, resigned from her post less than two years after joining the taxi-hailing app company.
Turbulent times..
The former Google employee didn’t give a reason for her resignation, but it comes at a turbulent time for Uber, which has been hit by various departures and scandals.
Only a matter of weeks ago, President Jeff Jones left the company after a seven-month stint, while head of engineering Amit Singhal also recently left the San Francisco-based firm.
Jones was particularly damning in his assessment of the company, stating: “The beliefs and approach to leadership that have guided my career are inconsistent with what I saw and experienced at Uber.”
Boardroom troubles...PR disasters
Away from the board room troubles, Uber has also been hit with a string of PR disasters in the past couple of months.
Chief executive Travis Kalanick was caught on video rowing with one of his own drivers called challenged him about fare changes.
Kalanick – who co-founded the app back in 2009 – later said he needed “leadership help” once footage of the argument surfaced.
Former employee Susan Fowler took to Twitter back in February where she alleged numerous sexual harassment incident during her year at Uber.
Kalanick responded, also on Twitter, by calling for an “urgent investigation”, although that wasn’t enough to halt the tide of bad press.
Another “strong and brilliant” woman Jill Hazelbaker, who worked for Whetstone at both Uber and Google, will take over the position.
