A new world record for a diamond sold at auction got the social media wires buzzing.
The 59.6 carat pink diamond sold for HK$553 mln (US$71.2mln) at a Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong, a record for any diamond or jewel.
A previous auction of the diamond achieved a higher sale price, but the buyer subsequently defaulted.

Where old internet brands go to die
Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) meanwhile is to scrunch two dinosaur internet brands together - Yahoo! and AOL – in a new entity called Oath. Verizon’s acquisition of Yahoo!, first announced back in July of last year, has finally closed, paving the way for a rebrand at the corporate level.
The Yahoo! name will live on as an internet portal.
Any colour you like as long as its electric
Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has overtaken Ford to become the second largest US car maker by market capitalisation after its shares surged on a well-received first quarter trading update.
The electric-car manufacturer’s shares jumped 7.3% to close at a record US$298.52 in the US, putting its market capitalisation at US$48.7bn, compared to Ford’s US$44.6bn.

Tesla also said it was on track to meet its guidance of 47,000 to 50,000 deliveries in the first half.
The company plans to produce 5,000 cars a week later this year after output of the new Model 3 begins in July.
