Verizon combines AOL and Yahoo! units to form "Oath"

The newly named business will have 20 brands in it, the best known of which are Yahoo! and AOL

Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) is to scrunch two dinosaur internet brands together - Yahoo! and AOL – and will call the combined entity Oath.

Verizon’s acquisition of Yahoo!, first announced back in July of last year, has finally closed, paving the way for a rebrand at the corporate level, though the Yahoo! brand will live on as an internet portal with a rag-bag collection of add-ons such as mail, groups and news.

The bit Verizon did not acquire has already been renamed Altaba, and is essentially a holding company, with the main holding being a stake in Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA), the e-commerce giant.
