Wireless coms giant Verizon (NASDA:VZ) has hired former Ericsson boss Hans Vestberg as it rejigged operations so it can accelerate the roll-out the next generation of digital products.
The new company structure will focus on media and telematics, network and technology, and customer and product operations, it said.
Vestberg will reportedly lead an organization responsible for further developing the architecture of Verizon's fiber networks and initially be based in Sweden, before coming to the US.
Meanwhile, Marni Walden will be executive vice president for media and telematics, and John Stratton was named as executive vice president for customer and product operations.
Walden's media and telematics unit will focus on growing the company's new businesses in digital media, including integrating the pending acquisition of search engine Yahoo, which will give Verizon over 1.3bn digital media users and generate $7 billion of revenue.
Shares rose 0.16% in pre-market to $49.14.
