Talga Resources to develop graphene ink for printed batteries

Talga Resources’ graphite results amongst highest recorded globally.

Talga Resources (ASX:TLG) has signed an agreement with Zinergy UK Ltd to co-develop and supply graphene conductive inks for electrodes used in the world’s thinnest, flexible printed batteries.

Talga and Zinergy will collaborate to develop and trial graphene-based conductive ink formulations in components of the patented Zinergy ultra-thin printed battery.

The development program will run for an initial 12-month period.

Talga had received very high grade graphite assays in December and January from a drilling program across several of its graphite projects located in northern Sweden.

Significantly, the graphite grades reported are amongst the highest recorded globally.

Talga’s Vittangi project already has an existing JORC 2012 resource of 9.8 million tonnes at 25.3% graphitic carbon, which is the highest resource grade amongst all the graphite deposits in the world.

Graphene’s properties of high conductivity and impermeability can provide an advantage over competing materials to enable low cost, scalable and flexible battery components.

Flexible form factor printed batteries create functionality for a range of electronic products for industries including smart packaging, portable electronics, wearables, and sensors.

The conductive ‘ink’ materials to be tested represent variants of Talga’s graphene value-added products currently being developed for metal coatings and water-based lithium-ion battery anodes.

The preparation of graphene materials will be conducted by Talga’s dedicated energy products team at Talga Technologies UK. Initial test results are expected in 3Q CY2017.

The company’s share price has increased circa 40% since the start of 2017, last trading at $0.405.
