Kibo Mining PLC (LON:KIBO) has built two new classrooms in Tanzania as part of a project to extend and refurbish local schools.
Louis Coetzee, chief executive of the Tanzania-focused mineral explorer, on Friday unveiled the newly built classrooms to Chiku Gallawa, the regional commissioner of the Songwe region.
It is part of a joint programme with the communities of Meheza and Namkukwe, located north-east of Kibo’s Mbeya coal to power project in Songwe.
During the unveiling ceremony of the new classrooms, Coetzee said the Mbeya project will provide job opportunities for workers in Songwe but investment in education was needed.
“To this effect, the Meheza and Namkukwe communities, of which Kibo is a proud member, has developed a long term education strategy that will improve and expand local education and education infrastructure, to ensure that future education is delivered at the qualitative and quantitative standards that will be required in a fast growing regional and national economy. “
“Building the classrooms at Meheza and Namkukwe was the first tangible delivery towards successful implementation of this education strategy.”
Shares in Kibo rose 2.50% to 5.12p in afternoon trading.
