Mineral sands producer Base Resources Ltd (LON:BSE) expects to boost reserves at Kwale in Kenya after drilling indicated mineral zone extensions to the north and south.
The drill programme is exploring two prospective areas adjoining or near the existing Kwale operation: the south-west sector and north east sector. In the south-west, latest drilling has shown the Kwale South Dune deposit continues south by 950m and east by up to a further 500m.
A new dunal mineral deposit has Also been uncovered at Mafisini along the same trend with intercepts over a contiguous 1,240m of strike and up to 480m in width.
Elsewhere more dunal mineralisation and marine sediments have been found in the NE Sector, adjacent to the Kwale Central Dune.
In the first half of the 2016/17 trading year, Base sold 236,488 tonnes of ilmenite, 42,796 tonnes of rutile, 17,957 tonnes of zircon and 3,397 tonnes of zircon low grade all of which came from its minerals sands operation.
