Proxama PLC (LON:PROX) has secured another grant from Innovate UK; this time to help fund the design and development of a smart transportation model for the Greater Manchester area.
Working alongside the likes of tech giant Cisco Systems, Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), Proxama’s role in the project is to develop context-aware, location-based marketing services that will benefit travellers.
The collaboration, which also includes Transport for Greater Manchester, will deliver a proof of concept solution that will help address the challenge of providing transport services to fit demand.

To help fund its work, the London-based company has been awarded a £0.3mln grant from Innovate UK – the fourth such grant it has received from the UK’s innovation agency – which will be paid out over an 18-month period.
Importantly for Proxama, the move ‘up north’ will allow it to expand its network of Bluetooth beacons in to Manchester.
The beacons, alongside other proximity technologies such as Wi-Fi, will help the firm gather data to better match transport services to public demand.
“This project demonstrates the value of our technology and our ability to support smarter, targeted marketing services,” said chief executive John Kennedy.
“This contract will also allow us to significantly increase the number of beacons that we have outside of London. Having more beacons means we are able to help brands to reach more consumers in a targeted way, and gather more data.”
The project is slated to start in the second quarter of this year.
