DroneShield (ASX:DRO) has achieved a major breakthrough by selling its DroneGun tactical drone jammer to the Ministry of Defence of a Middle Eastern country.
The test unit was purchased at the full rate price, with a potential follow up order on a large scale to provide that country’s military with a counter-drone capability.
The country is closely allied with the Western governments.
The order comes against a back-drop of rapidly rising terrorist activity, including ISIS formally announcing a new “Unmanned Aircraft of the Mujahideen” unit, a fleet of modified drones equipped with bombs.
ISIS also claimed that its drones had killed or wounded 39 Iraqi soldiers in a single week.
The governments in the Middle East and elsewhere are acutely aware of the threat posed by commercial grade drones adapted for unlawful use by terrorists and other nefarious users.
Incidentally, DroneShield was selected by the Boston Police Department as the exclusive drone security provider for the 2017 Boston Marathon to be held in April 2017.
The company’s systems will be placed at strategic points of the marathon course, with the ability to provide real time alerts to police officers and other security personnel.

The company’s in-house and distributor salesforces are continuing to progress a large number of opportunities, with several orders in advanced stages.
DroneShield’s share price has increased 64% since the beginning of 2017, last trading at $0.46.
