If you were watching BBC2 last night (Tuesday), you might have seen cell-based therapeutics specialist ReNeuron Group Plc (LON:RENE) feature in ‘Andrew Marr: My Brain and Me’.
In the documentary Marr explores pioneering stroke treatments after her suffered a life-threatening stroke a few years ago which has left him with reduced movement down the left hand side of his body.
ReNeuron’s Keith Muir – who led the company’s phase II clinical trial in stroke disability – explains how stem cells can be used to help patients living with the consequences of a stroke.
The show also followed the progress of a stroke patient who took part in ReNeuron’s phase II clinical trial.

At the end of 2016, ReNeuron delivered encouraging results from its phase II clinical study treating stroke patients with its CTX stem cells.
The PISCES II trial monitored improvement in arm movement in the 21 patients receiving treatment, with three making progress – more than the two ReNeuron had hoped to see.
On other disability improvement measures the treatment appeared to have an impact on a greater number of patients.
In all, 15 out of 21 patients had a clinically significant response on at least one efficacy measure.
