Proactive news highlights: Hurricane Energy, MySQUAR, Orosur Mining and more…

Hurricane Energy kicks off the Halifax well; MySQUAR user base smashes through the 7.5mln mark; Orosur Mining sees big uptick in profits and cash inflow; plus more…

Hurricane Energy Plc (LON:HUR) has now spudded the Halifax exploration well in the Rona Ridge Area in the West of Shetland region of the North Sea.

Halifax, located within a recently secured licence block, is located to the North East and is contiguous to the Lancaster field.

Elsewhere, MySQUAR Limited’s (LON:MYSQ) recent flurry of new app releases seems to have done the trick, with the number of registered users across its platforms now exceeding 7.5mln.

That figure means the Myanmar-focused mobile app developer has grown its user base by more than 25% since last October, when it told investors that it had around 6mln users on board.

Uruguay-based Orosur Mining Inc‘s (LON:OMI CVE:OMI) switch to underground production at its San Gregorio mine has gone smoothly so far, the junior reported.

Ignacio Salazar, Orosur’s chief executive, said first production from the underground stopes was recorded on 24 November, which was on time and within budget.

A higher received gold price also allowed Orosur to post net profits for the three months to November of US$942,000 versus an US$870,000 loss a year earlier.

In other news, resources investment company Metal Tiger (LON:MTR) has announced the departure of its former chief executive Paul Johnson.

He had re-joined the board as non-executive director in December, but is now leaving the company completely.

Mark Potter, a founder and partner at investment firm Sita Capital and a former CIO at Anglo-Pacific, will replace Johnson on the Metal Tiger board as a non-executive.

First Property Group PLC (LON:FPO) has established a new fund, Fprop UK Special Opportunities LP, to invest in commercial property in the United Kingdom.

The fund has been set up in association with three Oxbridge colleges: Christ Church (Oxford); St Catherine’s College (Oxford) and Robinson College (Cambridge).

Equity commitments made by the colleges to the fund amount to £14.5mln. In addition First Property, which operates both as an investor and a fund manager, has made a commitment of £725,000.

Genedrive PLC (LON:GDR) has supplied units and assays to the US Department of Defense (DoD) for field trials as part of its US$7.8mln development programme.

Officials will assess its potential to check for hazards such as biological warfare agents.

Instem Plc (LON:INS), developer and vendor of software used to log clinical trials, said it has started the new year in good heart after providing some granularity on its performance in 2016.

Already-flagged-up contract delays and the “disappointing performance” of Instem Clinical offset the strong performance of the bulk of the business.

Elsewhere, LGO Energy PLC (LON:LGO) has temporarily suspended operations at the Ayoluengo field, in northern Spain, as it awaits a decision on its application to extend the concession for the project.

Ayoluengo is part of the La Lora Concession which began in 1966 and expires at the end of 2017, following fifty years of continuous production.

The AIM quoted company wants to extend the life of the field, which has produced just 17mln barrels of an estimated 105mln barrels of originally-in-place oil resources.

And finally, Tethyan Resources PLC (LON:TETH) has completed the first round of drilling at its Rudnitza copper-gold porphyry prospect within the Suva Ruda exploration permit in Serbia.

Four holes were drilled and the results from the first are already in.

This showed an encouraging 38 metres at 1.18% copper, with gold at 0.38 grams per tonne. Gold grades throughout the 567 metre hole averaged at around 0.45 grams per tonne.
