Vimto owner Nichols plc (LON:NICL) has hailed the progress made by its lead brand after it saw revenues grow by more than 7% last year.

Overall group sales for the year to 31 December 2016 came in at £117.3mln (2015: £109.3mln).

Nichols saw considerable growth from abroad where it has a small but expanding presence, with revenues from international sales increasing by 8.8% to £26.6mln.

UK revenues – which make up the bulk of Nichols’ income – were up to £90.7mln, a 6.9% increase compared to the year before (2015: £84.8mln).

The group said was primarily driven by the strong sales of its Vimto brand which were 5% ahead of 2015’s figures, as well as the incremental revenues generated by the acquisition of The Noisy Drinks Co.

Nichols’ board said it was “pleased” with the performance in 2016 and expects full-year profit and earnings per share to be in line with expectations.

The group said it would release its preliminary results for 2016 on 2 March.

Shares were down 1%, or 16p, to £15.76.
