The Department of Labor is taking legal action against advertising giant Google in an attempt to get its hands on compensation and remuneration information.
Google, which is owned by Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL), provides cloud computing services to various federal agencies and has been asked to hand over the information as part of a routine audit into the equal opportunity hiring practices.
Google, whose search engine meticulously tracks information on just about everyone and everything on the internet, has apparently refused to provide the government the names and salary details of its employees.
The Labor Department has now requested that a judge cancels all of the technology titan’s federal contracts unless it provides the required information.
"We filed this lawsuit so we can obtain the information we need to complete our evaluation,” said Thomas Dowd, acting director of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs.
Google’s stance is that it has already required hundreds of thousands of records, but it is not prepared to provide even more confidential information on its employees.
