Windar Photonics PLC (LON:WPHO) has won an order from India for five of its wind turbine units, with an option for a further thirty five units.
The customer is an unnamed Indian power generating company with 800Mw of capacity currently and it will install the units in its turbines in conjunction with an original equipment manufacturer.
Windar’s LiDAR technology analyses the wind ahead of a turbine so it can be optimised to fit the conditions.
Short term variations in wind speed can be measured before they reach the blades and this can increase annual power generation by 1-4% and reduce any possible damage to the wind turbine.
The LiDAR units will be directly integrated with the wind turbines control systems, allowing the wind turbine control system to receive measurement data directly from Windar’s sensor.
Jørgen Korsgaard Jensen, Windar’s interim chief executive, said: "Despite not having a local Windar sales and service presence in India, we have had a few trials in the Indian market during the last couple of years.
“The direct OEM integration particularly is important in order to maximize the benefits of retro-fitting WindEye LiDAR units.”
