Frontier IP Group Plc (LON:FIPP) has picked up a stake in its third spin out from Cambridge University’s Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology.
It is taking 20% of Tarsis Technology in return for helping it commercialise an innovation that controls the release of drugs into the body.
Developed by Royal Society Research Fellow David Fairen-Jimenez, the breakthrough new method of delivery uses metal-organic frameworks.
Frontier, which is appointing Dr Campbell Wilson to the Tarsis board, said there had already been interest in the new technology from the pharmaceutical industry.
"We are looking forward to working with Dr Fairen-Jimenez on this promising opportunity,” said Wilson.
“Frontier IP brings experience in commercialising IP and relationships with key players in relevant markets.
“Dr Fairen-Jimenez's technology approach combined with our support and network in the pharmaceutical space can help accelerate the commercialisation for this exciting technology."
A non-exec at Frontier, Wilson is currently a member - and a past chairman - of the board of the UK Pharmaceutical Licensing Group and has worked in the industry for over three-and-a-half decades.
