Donald Trump has threatened aerospace giant Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) that he may cancel the next fleet of presidential jets because the costs have risen too high.
In a tweet, the US President–elect said the costs were out of control and followed that up with an accusation the aerospace giant was ‘doing a number’ on the government.
"Well the plane is totally out of control, it's going to be over $4 billion for Air Force One [the President’s jet] program," Trump said.
"I think it's ridiculous, I think Boeing is doing a little bit of a number. We want Boeing to make a lot of money, but not that much money."
Boeing made no comment on the remarks.
Trump already owns his Boeing jet, a 757 with his name emblazoned on the fuselage. He acquired the plane in 2011 and is said to consider it a prize possession.
It’s nickname has already been changed from T-bird to Trump Force One.
The plane boasts gold-plated seats, a home cinema and two bedrooms, but is much smaller than the official presidential plane with 43 seats compared to 102 nor does it have the military enhancements such as anti-missile defences.
The newly-elected President pointedly used his own plane to fly to a meeting with incumbent Barack Obama shortly after his election victory.
