Mercom Capital boosted by funding proposal

New Mercom funding proposals got a warm reception from investors

Mercom Capital PLC (LON:MCC) climbed 38% to 20.75p on revised funding proposals from Calvet International.

Terms now are £5mln to be raised at 20p per share from new investors and warrants exercisable at 80p per share, within 180 days of issue.

Existing directors are to sell all of their shares at 20p per share and will return 2p per share to the company.

Previously the deal had been an £11.7mln fund raise at 18p per share and warrants to be issued on1:2 basis. A name change to Monchhichi PLC is also planned.

Shares in Akers Biosciences Inc (LON:AKR, NASDAQ:AKER) shot up 10% to 202.9p as the company trumpeted a major US distribution deal for its cholesterol self-testing kit.

The developer of rapid health information technologies has signed a distribution agreement with First Check Diagnostics, the major global diagnostic device and service provider.

First Check will rebadge the Akers Tri-Cholesterol “Check” test and distribute it exclusively in the US under the “First Check” brand. The test does not require US Food & Drug Administration approval so it can be sold over the counter.

Formation Group PLC (LON:FRM) slumped 42% to 1.75p as it revealed pans to de-list from AIM and switch to the ISDX market.

Costs on AIM are too high given the shares' relative illiquidity, it said.

12.30pm ...Games Workshop climbs on strong first half

Fantasy games specialist Games Workshop Group PLC (LON:GAW) has seen profits soar in the last six months, it announced today sending its shares up 8% to 630p.

Best known for the Warhammer model games, Games Workshop now expects operating profit of £13mln for the period to 27 November after strong sales and a currency boost following Brexit.

Royalty income is also expected to be ahead of the prior year.

Mobile phone apps specialist Mobile Streams Plc (LON:MOS) was a heavy faller as it announced a funding at a heavily discounted 4p per share to raise £1.6mln.

Investors can apply for shares through the crowdfunding group Primarybid.com.

9.30am ...Again, Again: Character Group investors lap up results

It was big hugs all round at Character Group PLC (LON:CCT).

The toys and licensing group shot to the top of the risers today following a resurgence in interest in Teletubbies toys after a re-launch earlier this year.

Demand for Peppa Pig toys was also strong and group sales rose by 22% in the year to August. Profits rose 6.5% to £13.1mln.

Even a warning that costs may rose due to the impact of a stronger dollar post-Brexit could not dampen investor’s enthusiasm and the shares added 6.6% to 463.8p.

Electronic components specialist APC Technology Group PLC (LON:APC) reported sales of £4.5mln in its first quarter, sending its shares up 7% to 6.55p.

Investors focused on upbeat comment rather than the big write-off for the disposal of the water treatment operation.

That will send the year to August deep I to the red, though operating profits were around £300,000.
