Richland Resources meets output target at Capricorn for third quarter

Revenue for the period was US$143,000 from the combined sale of around 241,000 carats

An optimisation programme at its Capricorn sapphire mine in Queensland, Australia meant Richland Resources Ltd (LON:RLD) met its output target of 800,000 carats in the third quarter, the firm said.

The group generated a total of 801,443 carats of sapphire and corundum in the three months, it said.

Revenue for the period was US$143,000 from the combined sale of around 241,000 carats of rough and untreated material at an average price of US$0.59 per carat.

The average grade mined was 14 carats per tonne from 55,985 tonnes of mined and processed alluvial material, the firm said.

Chief executive Bernard Olivier said he was very pleased with the operational progress at Capricorn.

"During the quarter Richland also concluded an extensive review of our sales and marketing systems and strategies, which led to a series of new developments beginning with the appointment of Anthony Brooke, following successful trial sales. We shall announce further news to the market shortly relating to our adoption of an integrated beneficiation model and new sales initiatives and partnerships."

Brooke was appointed as Capricorn Sapphire's vice-president of marketing and sales.

Post period, in the fourth quarter to November 18 total revenue of US$348,000 was achieved from the sale of around 250,000 carats at an average price of US$1.39 per carat

Planning has also started on the final stage of the production ramp-up which is aimed at increasing production to 1.2 million carats per quarter during 2017.
