Heads up, Beaconsfield! A hydrogen dispenser is going to be coming to the Extra Motorway Services station on junction 2 of the M40 motorway.
ITM Power plc (LON:ITM), the energy storage and clean fuel company company, said it has been granted full planning permission from South Bucks District Council to construct a hydrogen refuelling station (HRS) at the Shell filling station on the M40 motorway, some four miles north-west of the M25.
ITM said the station will be the first HRS in the UK to be integrated into the existing fuel forecourt, with the hydrogen dispenser located under the main fuel forecourt canopy.
ITM has now been granted planning permission to construct HRSs at four Shell filling stations in the south of England, and the current agreement with Shell is to build at three of these locations; at one of these - Cobham - the hydrogen dispenser is scheduled to be available for use by the public early next year.

Shell's experience from partnerships in Germany and the US shows vehicle manufacturers, fuel suppliers and governments need to work together for hydrogen mobility to succeed," said Jane Lindsay-Green, Shell's UK Retail Future Fuels manager.
Dr Graham Cooley, the chief executive officer of ITM Power, was similarly delighted at receiving planning permission and said he looked forward to updating the market on further developments in this exciting collaboration.
In other news, ITM has signed a sales contract for the supply of a 1.25 megawatt (MW), 50-bar electrolyser unit.
The energy storage and clean fuel company company said the unit will be deployed at an ethylene production plant by an unnamed major engineering, procurement and construction company.
