Futura’s ED treatment ‘more effective than first thought’

The company’s erectile dysfunction treatment can take as little as 60 seconds to have an effect

Futura Medical plc.’s (LON:FUM) erectile dysfunction treatment MED2002 has proven to be more effective than even the business itself first thought.

Even in patients with more severe ED, the gel treatment will have an effect within ten minutes, and even sooner for most men.

“What we’ve now found is that [the treatment] is faster than we originally thought,” James Barder tells Proactive.

“On around about 16% of men it will have an effect in one minute, with an average of around five minutes.”

The fact that MED2002 works so fast and requires little pre-planning gives Futura a major boost over its rivals, Barder adds.

“It’s very, very fast, most of the other products out there take typically an hour.

“It doesn’t require any planning which is the key issue with the other products on the market.”

Barder’s comments come after the Surrey-based firm found that there may be scope to have two doses of treatment for MED2002, with a higher dose used in more severe ED cases.

“The first thing to say is that there's been nothing dramatically different to what we originally saw.

“But the key finding from [the analysis] is that we think there's a great opportunity for us to move forward with two different doses - the current dose and a higher dose.”

He says that this is common practice amongst ED treatments, with most of its peers offering at least two or three different doses to try and meet the need of the majority of sufferers.
