ValiRx encouraged by progress in lung cancer trial

Members of the ValiSeek joint venture made a site visit to the clinic in Tbilisi, Georgia

Cancer-focused biotech ValiRx PLC (LON:VAL) has reported encouraging early findings from its Phase II clinical trial of VAL 401 - its lung cancer candidate.

Members of the ValiSeek joint venture, formed to progress the drug, made a site visit to the clinic in Tbilisi, Georgia, and found that the first patient has been dosed and is tolerating the treatment well.

The patient has experienced no drug-related adverse events and remains enthusiastic about continuing on the trial, the firm reported.

A second patient has also now been approved to begin dosing, while the screening procedure for further enrolment remains underway.

In August this year, the firm said it had received the regulatory approvals needed for the VAL401-001 trial to begin.

Dr Suzanne Dilly, ValiSeek Limited's chief executive, said today: "Our trip to Tbilisi has been very useful in increasing our understanding of the position of VAL401 in the treatment environment.

"To see the enthusiasm of the clinical team and in particular to learn about the equal enthusiasm of the patients, provided a welcome reassurance that both the trial and the treatment have been designed appropriately and with the correct ethical influence in mind and that our goal to improve patients' quality of life is achievable."

Further detailed results will be presented in at the Bio-Europe conference in Cologne from 6-9 November.
