Advanced Oncotherapy appoints proton beam head to main board

Stephen Myers took over as executive chairman of Advanced Oncotherapy’s ADAM subsidiary a year ago

Advanced Oncotherapy (LON:AVO) has appointed the head of its proton beam cancer treatment subsidiary to its main board.

Professor Stephen Myers took over as executive chairman of Advanced Oncotherapy’s ADAM subsidiary a year ago and has overseen the recent development of the LIGHT proton beam technology.

Prior to joining Advanced Oncotherapy, Meyers worked at CERN in Geneva where from 2009-2013 he was Director of Accelerators and Technology and worked extensively on the Hadron Collider project. He was also Head of Medical Applications at CERN from 2014.

Myers is replacing Lord Evans, who is standing down having been with the company since its inception.

Advanced Oncotherapy added that its recent open offer to raise £4mln to fund its first LIGHT proton beam installation, in Harley Street in London, had been 84% taken up by shareholders.

French group Thales will build the LIGHT machines at its factory at Velizy in France and has already started to carry out high power RF (radiofrequency) testing and other preparation work.
