Alliance Pharma plc (LON:APH) said director Peter Butterfield has been appointed as deputy chief executive with immediate effect.
He is already chief commercial officer and joined the board in February 2010 when he transferred as part of the group's acquisition of Cambridge Laboratories.
John Dawson, Alliance Pharma's chief executive, said: "He has made a substantial contribution to the development of the company and to the senior leadership team. I am delighted with this appointment and I am sure he will excel in this new role as Deputy CEO."
