Department 13 International granted U.S. patent for wireless technology

Department 13 International Ltd (ASX:D13) has been granted a patent for sharing of wireless resources between networks used in counter-drone systems or any high-bandwidth network.

By leveraging this novel technology, the company has enhanced its drone defence solution allowing more sensors and devices to operate efficiently within the limited radio spectrum.

Department 13 has developed the ‘Mesmer’ counter-drone solution, which has the ability to take control of a drone and land it, against the will of the source controller.

Last month, the company successfully demonstrated its counter-drone solution at Black Dart, a U.S. Department of Defense counter-drone evaluation exercise.

The new US Patent 9473226 has been licensed to Department 13 by GenghisComm Holdings, the IP holding company of Department 13’s chief science officer, Steve Shattil.

This technology can permit licensed cellular spectrum to be used for other communications without interfering with cellular networks.

Being able to share resources between wireless networks has remarkable advantages for devices communicating in the shared, unlicensed frequency space.

This novel technology allows Department 13 to continue to enhance its drone defence solution through increased sensor data exchange within an increasingly crowded radio environment.

The company’s share price has increased by 44% during the past one month, last trading at $0.14.
