Informa on the rise after Berenberg upgrade

The broker reckons the firm's progress is not reflected in the valuation

Information, publishing and events group Informa plc (LON:INF) saw shares rise almost 2% as German bank Berenberg upgraded the share to 'buy' from 'hold'.

Alastair Reid, analyst, believes the firm's progress is not reflected in its valuation and lifts the target price to 800p from 740p (current price 681p).

Recent acquisitions in exhibitions and investment in academic publishing and business intelligence have left Informa with a higher-quality business, with the scale to better exploit growth opportunities across existing and new markets, the broker reckons.

Last month the group bought US rival Penton and analysts suggested making more profits in dollars will help to ease the pain of the pound’s post-Brexit vote slump.

Reid said this, along with the Hanley Wood purchase diversifies the group to leave exhibitions, which provide a better way to capture growth, representing a third of profits; and boosts the footprint of the division in the US – a market with an improving outlook.
